Professional Photographer Magazine: Published | Seattle Birth Photographer

I’ve been meaning to post my most current achievement. (It’s been a busy few weeks around here. On top of the usual work load, the little miss turned one, and I finally finished some house projects around here. More on that a bit later. You know I’m dying to share those details).

In November, I was contacted to be a part of a birth photography article for Professional Photographer magazine. It is the official magazine of the PPA (Professional Photographers of America), which has been in circulation for more than 100 years to an international audience. This would be the largest crowd my work would ever speak to. And, I was completely speechless, for the first time in my life. Let me tell you, it feels truly amazing to have my work appreciated by the photographic community. This is my art, and this is also how I make a living. It is a business that has made me question everything in me. So, I will take this as a little ‘wink’ to keep moving forward, a sign I’m in the right direction.

This is the third page, showing two colored images of Jessica’s of Jessica Strom Photography, (located in Kansas City, Kansas).

The final two pages; my image at the bottom left is from Cole’s birth, and the top right is from Ellie & Emma’s birth.

The article featured two other incredibly talented birth photographers – Jessica of Jessica Strom Photography and Rachael of Rachael May Photography. The article was written because birth photography has been gaining popularity as of late. It’s an introduction to birth photography for others that may be interested in offering this service to their repertoire of family photography. As a photographer, I get a lot of shock from people when I tell them I photograph childbirth. It’s the most wildly intimate day of your life and some couldn’t imagine sharing that moment with anyone other than their partner. But, most, (if not all) of my clients don’t remember those tiny details – those connections in the string of events that tell the entire story of love, and the union of meeting your child for the first time. In the interview, Stephanie Boozer asked me why I started birth photography. When I started I wasn’t a mother yet, but I thought the day you meet your child must be the most profound moment of your life. And, it turns out, it is indeed.

Huge congratulations to Jessica and Rachael, what an honor to be in this article with you both.

The Conniff Family | Holiday Christmas Card

They are some of my oldest friends. How sweet it is to see them now with their little guys. One wild little boy and one tiny little pea. This family has my heart. xoxo
