a birth story

I was working on this birth story today, (as I needed to finalize some edits so it could be added to my website). It’s a bit different than before….some images I added because I just love them so much more looking back on them again.

But, it got me thinking about childbirth. About all the opinions people have about how a birth should operate. Being a birth photographer, I constantly find myself researching this topic. I’ve witnessed and documented many births, read a list full of books and stories, watched documentaries, shared many conversations about childbirth. There are certainly many ways of giving birth – in a hospital, a birth center, or at home, or medicated, by cesarean, the list goes on. But, all I know is that however a child is birthed into this world, it’s so beautiful. So, incredibly sacred and wildly magical. And intimate, perfect, emotional, and beyond the most special gift. And, I know that women should feel empowered by carrying life into this world.

The very beginning of our lives, from our first moments, should be celebrated. Forever.

This is the birth story of Elis, once again. One of the most emotional births I’ve photographed to date.
